Horrors’ Faris VS Black Lips

blacklipsdrugs

Horrors’ frontman Faris Badwan has unveiled a new project, and this time around it has nothing to do with drawings. Like fellow bandmates Rhys and Tom (who gave us Spider and the Flies) Badwan has ventured into new musical territory. It comes in the form of a b-side to the new Black Lips single, Drugs. The track is a cover of Black Lips’ “I’ll Be With You”. It also features Cherish Kaya (formerly of Ipso Facto) and Rachel Santesso, all collaborating under the name Lumina.

There has been no word as to if this is a one-off or something that could potentially appear again in the future.

Pitchfork have posted the mp3 here. The single will be released on 7″ on August 24th through Vice Records.

ATP: Nightmare Before Christmas

Spring is here. Summer is coming. Now is hardly the time to even think about anything with the word “Christmas” included. Up until All Tomorrow’s Parties’ announcement of their Nightmare Before Christmas festival this year, that is.

Held at Butlins in Minehead on December 4th through the 6th, curating the event is the legendary shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine.

Already announced so far are acts such as Sonic Youth, De La Soul, The Horrors, EPMD, and Sun Ra Arkestra. That’s just the beginning of it. More names will be confirmed as the year passes by.

Early bird tickets are on sale now but will most likely sell out quickly. Full price tickets are already available as well.

The Horrors – Primary Colours. The bands and tracks that influenced the new album.

l_3aa70949b7c544e39e729f69bb668fab

Last night saw The Horrors’ perform their new album Primary Colours live for the first time and good God it sounded good. A huge departure from previous releases, the album references the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Neu!, Jesus and Mary Chain, Killing Joke and Echo and the Bunnymen.

The good chaps down at The Quietus have broken the album and given it a right-proper analysis, and, using the wonder of modern technology, you can listen to a list of their influences on Spotify.

Take a look at the article now, and if you don’t have Spotify yet, get it here.

A Cave Christmas Special

More choices for Londoners looking to celebrate this holiday season. For Christmas, Rhys “Spider” Webb (The Horrors) brings The Cave Club back, which has always boasted impressive line-ups. This time around, teenage garage troupe SPEAK AND THE SPELLS will be performing live. They’re one of the best of their kind right now, be on the look out for these kids.

The Cave Club is a bit more upbeat than its sibling project, The Set Up (also run by Webb, but explores much darker sounds)- So if you’re looking for a dose of soul music this season, you know where to go.

Speaking of the Horrors (who seem to be everywhere these days) they will also be DJing at The Sect’s New Years Eve party. Flier after the jump!

The Kool Kids Klub and Coffin Joe present…

No one can accuse those Horrors of being lazy. From instrumental side projects to really-rather-good DJ sets to exhibitions to tabloid fodder, the band have been very busy in the last year or so.

Their latest project comes courtesy of Coffin Joe and is quite unexpected – a night dedicated to beats, breaks, bleeps and bass. Night one will feature dubstep heavyweight Loefah alongside rising star Foamo and east-end superstar Med Damon. Read on for a full lineup and flyer.
