First wave of bands announced for Offset!

malebond

Over the years we’ve had some very exciting artists through our gates but this could potentially be the most exciting influential band Offset has announced yet! For Offset 2010 we’re pleased to be flying Liquid Liquid over from New York for what will be – amazingly – only their second-ever appearance in England.

These New Puritans join the helm for a very special live performance, having produced this year’s most groundbreaking album, plus Telepathe will be flying in from Brooklyn for a late night dancefloor-friendly live set.

Legendary Krautrock group (and Eno collaborators) Cluster make a very rare live performance, alongside pioneering cold wave band Charles De Goal, who will be preceded by a special Angular Records cold wave showcase. And, fresh from producing their eagerly-awaited second album with Diplo, Rolo Tomassi are set to return to our hardcore stage for their second Offset performance.

After one of the most jaw dropping performances of Offset 2009, Sub Pop signing Male Bonding will be moving up to main stage this year, along with Bo Ningen, a band whose hair-raising antics at last year’s event were hailed by the Observer as their best discovery of the weekend. Plus Factory Floor, O.Children, Invasion, Electricity in our Homes and more! See the full list of names here.

Offset 2010 will bring together over 180 artists, which means more than 160 artists are yet to be announced, including headliners!

Telepathe – Dance Mother

Melissa Livaudais and Busy Gangnes are great people. You might be please to know that they’ve been nice enough to put together a great album.

There’s not much to write that hasn’t been written about this Brooklyn noise trio, but I’ll have a go. Lovers, leavers and loathers – they formed in 2004 as a hybrid beast of prog-punk experimentalists Wikkid and no-wavers Ex-Models. Core contributors have come and gone until finally settling with the current aggregation, Gangnes, fellow Wikkid and First Nation guitarist Melissa Livaudais and Mirror Mirror’s Ryan Lucero. They share the Social Registry with the tribal-prog-rappers Gang Gang Dance and Livaudais’ brother’s Effi Briest. Livaudais’ side project First Nation have released on the Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks.

Dance Mother is, at worst, reassuring. At best, it’s exemplary of what synths and punk could have achieved. There are shining moments of splendour in this debut; ‘Michael’ and the wordily titled ‘Trilogy – Breathe Of Life, Crimes & Killings, Threads & Knives’ are glistening gems of experimental electronic pop. Telepathe preach along the same lines as The Knife, Thunderheist and the Italians Do It Better co-operative while simultaneously imposing a no-wave attitude which could
