Experimental post-punkers Table Manners are very much in the minimalist Prinzhorn Dance School vein, with an authentic early 80s feel despite having only formed a year ago. Always impressive live, they’ve recorded a fantastic set of tracks and released it all as a free download album! Click on the picture above for the Rapidshare link.
Write Record Release, run by the band members themselves, is a burgeoning club night happening monthly at The George Tavern. With the likes of Dignan Porch, Micron 63, Islington Boys Club, and Cotton Club coming up, it’s well worth a night out. The next night is on 26th Feb, and hit read more for full lineups and dates for the next couple months.
Also, we’ve picked a personal fave track from the download album below, as a taster. ‘Sharp 1200′ kicks the collection off with a compelling sample before the ominous drum line leads into this fantastic cold drone track. “Midnight has never been so sharp”, indeed. Grab it below and if you like it, grab the full album via Rapidshare.
If your partner is as awesome as you, they’ll probably appreciate being taken out and treated to four great bands on Valentine’s Day, rather than Pizza Hut (again). Fanfarlo are holding a fundraiser for their SXSW trip and the treats in store for you include Graffiti Island, Male Bonding, Throwing Up + numerous Valentine’s-related jollies. It’s at The Lexington, Sat 14th Feb, and you don’t HAVE to be romantically involved to attend. But who knows? Video: King Khan & The Shrines – Welfare Bread (Live on Don’t Look Down)
Berlin-based insane garage psychers King Khan & The Shrines are in London next week, so take your pick of three awesome venues and lineups. Firstly they hit the Dirty Water Club up in Tufnell Park on Friday Dec 12th for a King-themed extravaganza, joined by King Salami & the Cumberland 3 and Offset Festival faves Thee Vicars, who become honourary Far King Vicars for the evening.
Canadian thisisoffset faves The Pack A.D. bring their rock ‘n soul fury to London this Friday, at the Dirty Water Club in Tufnell Park. The rest of the lineup’s pretty down and dirty too, with Thee Landells playing their twisted garage pop, and The Outbursts sounding like a 60s punk band. Full event details on the Dirty Water Club site, and a fantastic interview and live footage of The Pack A.D. after the jump.
Smelly old Shoreditch is hosting a cocktail party tonight, and not only is it free for you to walk in but you will also be entertained by two fantastic bands – Fanfarlo and Herman Dune! 8.30pm at The Old Blue Last for your magical evening. Check out the great Herman Dune live session mp3 and beautiful Fanfarlo ‘Black Cab Session‘ after the jump.
Now we don’t usually cross the pond to bring you your news, but this is just too fucking cool to ignore. NYC no wave legends Teenage Jesus & The Jerks perform this Friday at the Knitting Factory in New York, bringing back the chaos of late-70s no wave for one night only. There’s plenty going on right now to celebrate: the Thurston Moore-compiled book ‘No Wave:Post Punk, Underground, New York 1976-1980′, a comprehensive Lydia Lunch DVD containing not just Teenage Jesus perfomances but also all her musical collaborations from 1978-2006, and hopefully on 6th August a definitive Teenage Jesus & The Jerks compilation! If, like me, you’ll be half a million miles away from NYC this Friday, try the classic video after the jump. It soothes the pain.
