LA’s disco punks The Mae Shi return triumphantly to our shores for a full-on live blitz throughout Europe in May. Kicking off this weekend with an appearance at ATP Vs The Fans, the band are set to astound and amaze people from Minehead to Monterrey with their frenetically awesome live show. The tour dates are in full below, the majority are as main support to fellow Californian’s Abe Vigoda.
To get people in the mood for the band’s visit, The Mae Shi are giving away their remix of Metronomy’s ‘Radio Ladio’, click to download this here:
For those of you that have never been to one of Sexbeat’s nights… where have you been?!! Lynchpins of Shoreditch nightlife for the last few years, they’ve now compiled some of the bands that have played or been played into one beautifully hand-crafted CD.
Their music policy has always been eclectic – their name sums it up well: a Gun Club track that was covered by Andrew Weatherall’s ‘Two Lone Swordsmen’ – and tends to take in anything (punk/rap/hardcore/psychobilly/metal/industrial) with a dark-edge and a bit of a kick to it.
I have a confession to make… I’m becoming truly obsessed with the LA’s The Smell venue and all the amazing acts that have performed (and continue to perform) there. I’ve NEVER even been to LA or been to The Smell but this Philly girl is in dire want of checking out some Smell shows pronto.
This obsession all started with HEALTH and the multiple times I was lucky enough to see them last year in Londontown. It spurred interest in other acts such as Mika Miko, Anavan, and No Age. Now the obesssion is full-blown over the band Abe Vigoda:
Hereis a music video of their kickass song, ”All Night and Day”.
Also here is a fan-made video also found on YouTube for the totally tubular “Bear Face”.
This time last week me and about 500+ other flanel shirt wearing Londoner’s were readying ourselves to make tracks to The Dome in Tufnell Park for a line-up that would be much more suited to playing sunny downtown LA then a freezing London suburb. Tonight was our chance to have a taste of the the much talked about LA scene, centering around The Smell, as three of it’s more prominent fixtures, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda and Anavan make up yet another, nail on the head, Upset The Rhythm bill
August 18th sees the release of the very sexy ‘New Video Works’, over two hours of live footage music videos from the best underground L.A. bands around right now. As well as those nasty people in the headline, the set includes tracks from Abe Vigoda, High Places, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda, Lucky Dragons, Soft Circle, BARR, Finally Punk, and more. It’s out on No Agers’ Dean Spunt’s label, Post Present Medium, and Amazon UK are taking pre-orders right here. Playing right now should be Erase Errata’s ‘Tax Dollar’, when that finishes there’s the tracklisting for the DVD and plenty more noise after the jump.
