The Horror’s side-project, Spider and The Flies, have finished recording, mixing, and fixing up their spiffing new and very first mini album. After an incredibly exciting first 7″ single including ‘Metallurge’ and ‘Desmond Leslie’ on Mute Irregulars in November last year, Rhys ‘Spider’ Webb and Tom ‘Furse’ Cowan are back with more sounds from outer space. This time they’ve created a mini album, including 7 thrilling new songs. The baby’s name is ‘Something Clockwork This Way Comes‘, is produced by the legendary Barry 7 from Add N to (X) and is set for release on December 1st on Mute Irregulars. It will be available on both 12″ vinyl and cd, and with the new ‘Teslabeat’ on their myspace-player, I’m getting the feeling it’s going to be worth the money.
Describing themselves as “the result of a freak accident in which two scientist explorers and their clockwork laboratory were sucked into a cataclysmic black hole only to emerge in a foreign universe as monstrous half-human-half-insect creatures”, Spider and The Flies aren’t what you’d call a very pop-rock band. Influenced by Delia Derbyshire from BBC Radiophonic Workshop and possibly even some Joe Meek instrumentals, they create rather minimalistic sounds that don’t seem to belong in this world. Key words are: outer space electronics, yet danceable.
Planet earth, are you ready?
Pre-order through rough trade, listen on myspace.

I guess the horrors are doing whatever they can to make money now?! When is their album coming out?

Both Spider and the Flies and The Horrors took their time to record and mix their new releases, but I think this can only result in a more mature and finished sound.
I’m sure news concerning The Horrors’ new album will be up as soon as there is any.
