I was playing records at the WETDOG album launch on Friday. Unfortunately I missed the opening band, the amazing Sticks. I was quite dismayed at this seeing as I hadn’t seen them in months.

The second band were The Devil, a friend of mine told me that the main guy was also in the band The Rebel and had released near on 50 albums in his career so far. I don’t know how much of that was true but none the less it is interesting. This band were amazing, it’s so rare to see exciting bands in London at the moment. Far too much fodder around. The band seemed to musically progress through the set as if their taste was developing right in front of you. The opening song sounded something like the Swans (one of my personal favourites) with pretty mechanical electronics and a intense tribal beat, but they had this odd surf guitar riff over the top. Might I also add the guitarist looked like a fucking don. Then they moved onto something that sounded like rapping but was done in quite a Mark E Smith tongue-in cheek way. I didn’t really get it but some people in the audience did. These lot must have been the friends and family. Finally they moved onto this amazing kraut number that merged 2 songs with this genius rolling bassline, while the lead guy went mental on the synth and sequencer.  To summarise quite a cool band, unfortunately I am struggling to find them on the internet, when I do I shall post it up.

Finally – the band we all came to see. WETDOG came on stage. They basically played the tracks of the album. This was great I’ve listened to the album so much of late but, unfortunately I don’t have the track listing so I can’t cite what the stand out tracks from their gig were. Although my one flaw was that they played no songs of the first record, which is unfortunate cos there is some amazing tracks on it – such as Steal a Car, they ignored my shouts for it as an encore. Bastards.
