Friday 24th and Saturday 25th April will see Camden once again become one giant party with the arrival of this year’s Camden Crawl. For those that have never been the premise is simple – one tickets gets you access to over 40 Camden venues and over 30 hours of live music, comedy, spoken word, theatre and much more…
The musical line-up – let’s face it, that’s what we’re really interested in – is staggeringly good with a great balance of old and new. Big name highlights of the Friday include scouse-legends Echo and the Bunnymen, indie-stalwarts Idlewild and Offset headliners Wire as well as a healthy US contingent including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Von Bondies and much-hyped The Virgins.
Saturday sees a rare outing for 808 State, Billy Bragg (who will no doubt be bringing a ’surprise’ guest), the spangly electro-pop of Little Boots and Mark E Smith’s The Fall.
That makes it pretty well worth the ticket price already but the beauty of the Camden Crawl is to be found in the less well known acts and the chance to pre-empt their success and see them in tiny venues. So, who’s on the ‘must see’ list?
Well… Drums of Death, Teeth!!!, An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump, Banjo or Freakout, Frankmusic, Golden Silvers, Eugene McGuiness, Toddla T, The Big Pink, Dan Black, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, Kasms, Alessi’s Ark, The Joy Formidable and S.C.U.M would certainly make a good start but check out the full line-up here.
Plus, there’s always the spectre of the – now somewhat expected – secret headliners which, in previous years, have included Graham Coxon, Supergrass (both in the Dublin Castle!), Amy Winehouse, The Charlatans and Babyshambles.
Tickets cost £55 for the full-weekend or £32.50 per day and are available here. For more information visit thecamdencrawl.com or myspace.com/thecamdencrawl
